I have a Business Idea - Now What?

It always starts the same way: a spark of inspiration. You’re in the shower, on a walk, or maybe talking with a friend when the thought hits you: “This could be a business.”

Then reality sets in. What now? Do you need a business plan? A logo? Funding? A website? Or should you just start building?

Here’s the truth: most business ideas don’t fail because they’re bad. They fail because the founder never takes the right first steps.

Step 1: Write Down the Problem, Not the Product

Every good business starts with a problem, not a solution.

Instead of jumping into what you’ll sell, ask:

  • Who is struggling?

  • What are they struggling with?

  • How do they try to solve it now?

💡 Example: Instead of “I want to build an app that organizes groceries,” say, “Busy parents spend hours planning meals — I want to cut that time in half.”

Step 2: Identify Who Actually Cares

It’s not enough to solve a problem. You need to solve a problem someone cares about enough to pay for.

Ask yourself:

  • Who feels this problem the most?

  • Is it painful enough they’d spend money to fix it?

  • Where do these people hang out (online or offline)?

If you can’t find real people to describe, you don’t have an audience yet.

Step 3: Test Before You Build

This is where most founders overcomplicate things. You don’t need an app, a storefront, or even a logo to test your idea.

Instead, try:

  • Talking to 3–5 people in your target group

  • Offering a pre-sale, or a one-on-one service version

  • Creating a simple landing page to see if people click “Interested”

The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is proof.

Step 4: Get Feedback Outside Your Circle

Your friends and family will cheer you on. That’s nice, but it’s not data.

You need honest feedback — even if it stings. Talk to strangers. Talk to people who might buy. Ask what’s missing, what excites them, and what makes them hesitate.

This is how you turn “just an idea” into a business that has traction.

Step 5: Don’t Go It Alone

Building a business doesn’t have to mean going in circles by yourself. The fastest way to cut through confusion is to get outside perspective.

That’s what LaunchLens was built for. In one $99 clarity session, you’ll walk away with:
